7 Indian Male Badminton Players who rule Badminton!

Get to know about the 7 Indian Male Badminton Players, amongst whom, not only are the Kings but the rising conquerors of Badminton.

  1. Prakash Padukone
  • Born in Karnataka, Prakash Padukone became the first Indian Badminton Player to win the All England Opens. Father of the Superstar Deepika Padukone, he also achieved the rank of World’s No. 1 Badminton Player in the year 1980.
  • Currently, he persistently promotes the Olympic Sports in India and is the co-founder of the organisation named Olympic Gold Quest.
  • He also runs Padukone Sports Management, has remained the Chairman of BAI and also served the Indian National Team of Badminton as a coach for 3-years (1993-96).

2. Pullela Gopichand

  • Coach of most of the Top Indian Female Badminton Players, Gopichand was born in Andhra Pradesh’s Nagandal, Prakasam. The King was coached by SM Arif and Prakash Padukone.
  • He became the second and last player to win the All England Open Badminton Championships after Padukone in 2001. He is the possessor of 5 Golds, 3 Silvers, 2 Bronze–and–Rajiv Khel Ratna (2001), Dronacharya Award (2009) and Padma Bhushan (2014).
  • Currently, he runs an academy, namely, Gopichand Badminton Academy

3. Srikanth Kidambi

  • Another King trained by the all-time greatest Gopichand, Srikanth Nammalwar Kidambi was born in Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh.
  • He remained a Gold-Digger in BWF World Superseries by winning 4 Golds in 2017, 1 in 2015. He shook the Badminton World by defeating the all-time conqueror Lin Dan in 2014 China Opens! He became the first-ever Indian to win the Super Series Premier Men’s Title.
  • He also was the First Indian Male Badminton Player to win the Gold in 2015 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold (he defeated Viktor Axelsen). He was also the winner of Indonesia Super Series (defeated Kazumasa Sakai).
  • History was made by the guy along with Sai Prarneeth by becoming the first Indian Pair to enter the Badminton’s Ranking Event.

4. Parupalli Kashyap

  • Trained by Pullela Gopichand again, Parupalli Kashyap belongs to Hyderabad.
  • He was the first Indian Male Badminton Player to break into the quarter-finals of 2012 London Olympics Men’s Singles. The guy surprised the Badminton World in 2012 Summer Olympics by defeating the great player, Nguyen Tien Minh and Niluka Karunaratne, soon reaching the rank of 6 from the 100 years ago.
  •  He is married to one of the most influential and successful Indian Female Badminton Players, Saina Nehwal.

5. Nandu Natekar

  • Owner of Natekar Sports and Fitness, the oldie and former Indian Male Badminton Player: Natekar is a legendary badminton player of India. He has won the National Men’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles several times in India.
  • The master has won 100+ domestic and international titles within the span of 15-years for India. He was also the first Indian Badminton Player to win the International Badminton Title.
  • The guy has earned the following jewels: Arjuna Award and Most popular Sportsperson of India (1961), Mixed Doubles Title in Bangkok’s King’s Cup International Tournament (1962), Meritorious Service Award by IBF (1989) and many more.

6. B Sai Praneeth

  • Born in Hyderabad, this amazing shuttler was coached again by none other than Pullela Gopichand.
  • He is the first-ever Indian Male Shuttler in 36 Years (after Padukone) to win a Bronze Medal for India in BWF World Championships. The guy has won India 9 Golds, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze till now!
  • The exceptionally talented Badminton player shook the World Stage of Badminton by defeating Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei in the All England Super Series Premier of 2016.

7. HS Prannoy

  • His full-name is Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar. Again coached by Pullela Gopichand, Prannoy was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • He was ranked at Number 2 player amongst the top Badminton players of India in 2015.
  • Currently, he is the trainer at Gopichand Badminton Academy, Hyderabad.

Everyone knows that Badminton is one of those Sports in India today that is ruled by the Queens. But the Indian Male Players of Badminton are continuously proving themselves as well by each passing year. The current rising Indian Male Badminton Players are Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and the young, Lakshya Sen.
