Graduated from the top-notch DU College, Abhimanyu Singh is well known for his 2009 released Gulaal. But what’s the real story and struggle of this man?

1. Famous for Gulaal, Abhimanyu Singh originally belongs to the land of Ranchi. He graduated from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi.

Well, Gulaal is not the only thing Abhimanyu is famous for.

2. Remember Josh’s actor, Chandarchur Singh? Well, Abhimanyu and Chandrachur are real-life siblings.

3. After Graduation, Abhimanyu came to Bombay, met Makarand Deshpande and joined him in his theatre group, ANSH.

Here, he found Anurag Kashyap and Kay Kay Menon as his senior.

4. The first day when Abhimanyu Singh went to Prithvi Theatre, Makarand made him sweep the floor!

Well, Yes. Abhimanyu’s mind was filled with questions, though he did what was told to be done. “Ah! But Why?” He told:

“The first day I enter the Prithvi theatre, Mak Sir tells me to pick up a broom and clean the floor, that’s what he told me so, I felt really bad, I said what is this? I have come here to learn acting, not to swipe the floor. I did it, at the end of the day there was some kind of emptiness in me. I could easily see that I am becoming zero, my ego is melting away, that’s what Mak Sir wanted me to, to be completely blank.”

5. After his personality training, Makrand began his acting training and started giving him small roles in his plays. These roles steadily converted into leads.

6. It was because of Manoj Bajpai that Abhimanyu got his first break with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Aks (2003).

7. Abhimanyu Singh has met Manoj Bajpai before. After seeing his performance in a stage play, Manoj recommended his name to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

But, Aks flopped–the beginning of a bad phase started in Abhimanyu’s life.

8. Later on, Abhimanyu started acting in serials and plays. In many downsides of these struggling years, even depression found its way in Abhimanyu’s life. But, Abhimanyu knew that one day everything will fall in place.

9. And a little light came in his life, he got Lakshya (2004). Ater that, he appeared in Dhol (2007) and then Jannat (2008).

10. In 2009, Abhimanyu bagged the role of Rananjay Singh AKA Ransa in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulaal, which earned him the Stardust Award.

11. He also received a lot of appreciation for his role as Bukka Reddy in Rakta Charitra (2010), directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

Abhimanyu also attracted positive reviews for Onir’s I Am (2010), consisting of four short films.

12. Abhimanyu then appeared in Department (2012), Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013), and Jazbaa (2015). Nonetheless, in search of hard-hitting roles, Abhimanyu went to South Indian Film Industry.

13. Abhimanyu also appeared in several Tamil and Telugu films such as Thalaivaa, Amar Akbar Anthony, Bejawada, Gabbar Singh, etc.

Abhimanyu’s 2017 released Tamil film Theeran Adhigaram Ondru led to his recognition for another movie, Suryavanshi (2020). Rohit Shetty, after seeing his role in Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, took an immediate decision of casting Abhimanyu for the role of an antagonist in Suryavanshi.
