Who Is Adil Hussain? The Underrated Actor

The personality we have on our list today is Adil Hussain. Adil belongs to the North East but has stormed his name all over the world!

1. Born on October 5, 1963, Adil Hussain is one of those personalities who dreamt of becoming an actor at a very young age.

2. Adil’s father always wanted him to be a professor, but Adil had something different in mind.

3. Adil grew up in Goalpara, Assam. He started polishing his passion through mimicking after watching stand up shows in his area.

4. Adil Hussain sometimes used to bunk school to watch movies. He always admired Tall and Dashing hero, fighting dozens of henchman simultaneously.

5. Adil, after his schooling, applied and got selected for the National School of Drama. He worked hard, but mostly, he used to get small roles as his Hindi was not good.

While in NSD, Adil had to fight with a lot of things.

  • He used to sleep for only 2.5 hours per day for the first two years.
  • Adil used to walk 7 KM daily to get food at Rs. 2.
  • He once put a lock on his room and would come and go through windows as he didn’t have money to pay rent.
  • It takes a lot of effort to be in a position where Adil is standing, and no one can deny the fact that he has paid for that position through his ambitions and hard work.

6. In NSD, he got a prominent role in Baagad Billa, through which he showed his acting skills very perfectly.

7. After NSD, Adil went to Drama Studio London but returned in 1994 after realizing that it’s not the course he wanted to pursue.

8. After returning, Adil joined a local theatre in Assam, Hengool Theater. He worked there for a few years.

9. Adil worked in a lot of theatre plays until he debuted with Jasoos Vijay (2002).

10. Although Adil was very active in Assamese Cinema, he debuted in Bollywood with a small role in Kaminey (2009), followed by his noticeable role in Ishquia (2010).

11. In 2012, Adil bagged the major roles in Agent Vinod, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, English Vinglish and Life of Pi. Through Life of Pi, Adil got Global Recognition.

12. After being famous, Adil starred in several Bollywood flicks such as Bioscopewala, 2.0, Rajma Chawal, Kabir Singh, Good Newwz and many more.

13. Adil was honoured by two National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film) in the same year for Mukti Bhawan and Maj Rati Kete

He was also awarded New Jersey Independent South Asian Cine Fest – Best Actor and Prag Cine Awards – Best Actor for Lessons in Forgetting and Raag: The Rhythm of Love respectively.

Apart from his Film Life, Adil, in 2013, was also granted a lifetime membership in the Aligarh Muslim University’s film club and Asian Academy of Films and Television’s International Film And Television Club.
