“‘Cause you’re a sky, you’re a sky full of stars
Such a heavenly view
You’re such a heavenly view, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.” If these lyrics from the beautiful song give you any hint, today we’re talking about stars! Not just any stars but stars in constellations! Koi ni yaar pollution me dikh ni re toh jaan toh skte hena!
1) A constellation is a collection of stars that appears to form a pattern or picture, for example, “Orion, the great hunter”. Eighty-eight constellations are officially recognized!
2) Most of the constellations are named from the ancient middle eastern, greek and roman cultures.
3) There are billions of stars and only a fraction of the make-up constellations. Though, all the stars belong to a unique group of stars in our galaxy milky way.
4) There are 13 astronomical zodiac constellations- Capricon, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius Sagittarius and Ophiuchus.
5) Why Don’t Constellations Match Astrological Dates?
Approximately 2500 years ago, the astrological signs were identified and connected to the calendar. The timing of earth seasons has shifted since then. So if next time your horoscope is a bit off, don’t you worry!
6) Fun Fact!
The Big Dipper is not a constellation! It appears as part of the Great Bear, URSA Major.
