- Expressionism first started in 1905, when a group of four German architecture students desired to become painters.
- Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fritz Bleyl, Karl Schmidt-rottluff and Erich Heckel– formed the group, Die Brucke (the bridge), in the city of Dresden.
