- Ants are as old as dinosaurs.
It is believed that ants have existed on this planet for more than 130 million years.
- Caste determines ant lifespan.
Generally, Ants have a short life span. But, an essential factor affecting lifespan is ants’ castes. Male adults live only a few days and die after mating with the female. Worker ants live for a few weeks to several months. Queer ants are the foremost long-lived colony members and may live for multiple years.
- Ants are farmers.
Ant-fungus mutualism is a symbiosis seen in some ant and fungal species, in which ants actively cultivate fungus much like humans.
- Some ants are asexual.
Some populations of ants long thought to be asexual get a dose of genetic diversity by having sex.
- Ants do not have ears.
Ant hears by feeling vibrations in the ground through their feet.
- Ants have two stomachs.
It is not because they are greedy.
One of their stomachs is for holding food for their consumption, and the other to store the food for sharing with other ants.
- Antarctica does not have ants.
