3 Basic Steps Towards How One Can Legally Get Their Name Changed In India
Step 1: Affidavits
- The first move is to present an affidavit to the District Court of a First Class Magistrate/Notary Public/Oath Commissioner.
- In the case of individuals who are permitted to confirm or declare instead of swearing, the Affidavit shall contain confirmation and declaration.
- A declaration in written form on behalf of an individual, named as the Deponent, signs, sworn or affirms it voluntarily.
Step 2: Newspaper Publication
- The name change must be published in two newspapers: one vernacular (a state where the individual resides) and another in French after an affidavit is sworn to the competent authority.
