An illness known as depression (major depressive disorder) impairs your mood, thinking process and behaviour. Fortunately, it is also treatable. The symptoms of depression include sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed. Besides being emotionally and physically problematic, it can make it difficult to function at work or home.
Mild to severe depression symptoms may include:
- Feeling sad or depressed
- Having no interest in activities once enjoyed
- Not being able to control appetites
- Lack of sleep
- Exhaustion
- If you become unsteady, pacing, handwringing, or slowed in movements or speech, it must be severe enough that others can observe these characteristics.
