1. Diu Fort

One of the iconic places to visit in Daman and Diu is Diu Fort. If you are a history enthusiast, you will fall in love with this fort. It was built in 1535 as the Defensive Centre for the Portuguese Colony. It is located on the tips surrounded by the Arabian Sea from all sides. It is also a canal, making it more interesting. Diu Fort was built over the remains of the Mughal Fort built by Malekhyaaz, a perfect example of stunning architecture and past.

 

 

2. Gangeshwar Temple

One of the religious and iconic places to visit in Daman and Diu is also known as Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple, “toh bolo Har Har Mahadev…” It is located 3 km away from Diu in Fudam Village at the Seashore of the Arabian Sea. Another name of this is ‘Sea Shore’ Temple as Shiva Linga is positioned at the seashore. It is a Cave Temple where the devotee can see five Shiva Lingams symbolise Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Above them is Shiva Linga, protected by Sheshnag.

 

3. Somnath Mahadev Temple

Daman and Diu is a place for Shiva Bhakts (far better to be someone else bhakt)! Somnath Temple is located in Dabhel Village, a nature-oriented place. People believe that a Shivalinga appeared at this place after all the dying prayers by a monk. Later on, it was adorned with a shrine of Lord Shiva in 1974. The primary attraction of the temple is the organisation of ‘Gangaji Fair’ known as Lokmela, which will make you learn about the Hindu culture and traditions.

 

 

4. INS Khukri Memorial

“Mera Bharat Mahan…” This is the apt thing you can say after visiting this iconic place in Daman and Diu. It is located on a hillock near Chakratirth Beach, a memorial site of an Indian Naval Ship. It was set up in 1999 in honour of brave martyrs of the Indian Navy. It was destroyed by the Pakistani army on 9 December 1971. You can have a beautiful view of the setting sun over the Arabian Sea.

 

 

5. St. Paul Church

One of the oldest and iconic places to visit in Daman and Diu is St. Paul Church. Its construction is dated in 1601 AD built in Baroque architectural style. Not only Bholebaba has a prominent place here, but Jesus Christ also has the same love. So you can visit this church to feel more connected to spirituality and god. It is named after the Apostle of Jesus and one of the three churches built by the Portuguese.

6. Naida Caves

One of the most attractive and iconic places in Daman and Diu that will make you fall in love. These caves have unique and interesting rock formations. It is also believed that these designs existed naturally earlier. It is located outside the Diu Fort. Portuguese colonists built the majestic Diu Fort using orange brownstone when they took control of the region. Here you can have soul-touching views as the sunlight streaming from various cracks gives you a thrilling feeling.

 

 

7. Diu Museum

A landmark museum located in Diu near St. Paul Church is also known as the St. Thomas Church Museum (set up in the St. Thomas Church). It is an archaeological treasure house and one of the iconic places to visit in Daman and Diu. It has numerous stone inscriptions, multicoloured fountains and vital artefacts. It was built up in 1598 and was the First Parish Church of Diu. Later it was converted into a museum in 1992. So history and spirituality at one place, no chance to say no.
