Below is the story behind the formation of a Kedarnath Jyotirlinga, which connects the lands of Nepal and India.
1. Kedarnath Jyotirlinga is located on the height of Rudra Himalayan Range at 12,000 ft. on a mountain named Kedar.

2. According to Puranas, Lord Shiva agreed to live here on the request of Nara-Narayan after the Kurukshetra War.

3. After this, Pandava brothers came here to meet Shiva on the advice of sage Vyasa. They wanted to seek forgiveness for their sin of killing their relatives in the war.

4. But Lord Shiva didn’t wish to forgive them. He turned into a form of a bull and hid among the cattle on the hill.

5. When Pandavas managed to track him, Shiva tried to disappear by sinking himself into the ground through his head.

6. One of the brothers, Bhima, then grabbed his tail and forced him to appear before them and forgive them. Bhima started to pull Shiva by his tail. In this tug of war, the face of the bull dropped on the land of Nepal, today known as Pashupatinath. The hind remained in Kedar.

7. The hind of the bull transformed itself into a Jyotirlinga. Lord Shiva then gave Darshan to Pandavas, freeing them from their sins.

8. Shiva then tells Pandavas that from now on, he will remain in Kedar as a triangular-shaped Jyotirlinga.
9. By taking the Darshan of Kedarnath, devotees would attain moksha.
