  1. Magnus Hirschfeld was a German Physician and sexologist. He was a prominent advocate of gay rights in the early 20th century.

  2. He pioneered the understanding of human sexuality and advocacy of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual.

  3. There is always an incident or trauma that drives a person towards their passion or calling. What is the trauma that led Magnus Hirschfeld to work for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community?

  4. While studying at the medical school, during a lecture on Sexual Degeneracy, a gay man who was locked in an asylum for 30 years because of his homosexuality was paraded naked before the students like an animal.

  5. He was traumatized after this incident and decided to work towards the betterment of the community.

  6. In 1896, Magnus Hirschfeld published his first short book, ‘Sappho and Socrates’ or ‘How to explain the love of men and women for persons of their own sex.

  7. In 1897, he launched the World’s first gay rights organization- Scientific Humanitarian Committee with Max Spohr, Franz Josef Von Bulow, Eduard Oberg.

  8. In 1914, he published his book, ‘Homosexuality in Men and women’.

After all his efforts and hard work, Magnus Hirschfeld was called the Einstien of Sex by the Hearst newspapers. The contributions he made over 100 years ago have proven to be beneficial for the growth of the LGBTQ+ community.
