The exceptional and still remembered actor, Om Shivpuri was born in Patiala (British India), on 14 July 1938 in a Brahmin Family.

1. Om Shivpuri received his education from Jodhpur. Then, along with his family, he shifted to Jaipur.

2. Om Shivpuri was passionate about acting from school time. He once portrayed the role of a girl in a school play, which drew quite an appreciation.

3. He got a part-time teaching job at a school and was pursuing LLB simultaneously. But, due to his not so good behaviour and short attendance, he was suspended.

4. Om Shivpuri started his job at Jaipur Radio Station where he met Sudha Sharma, his destined wife.

5. Later on, Om applied for the National School of Drama, New Delhi and also convinced Sudha to come with him and join NSD.

6. They both received their acting training under the ace theatre artist, Ebrahim Alkazi, and both graduated in 1964.

7. Later on, they both joined the newly formed NSD Repertory Company as actors.Shivpuri became the first chief of the NSD Repertory Company and continued so till 1976.

8. In 1968, Om Shivpuri and Sudha Sharma got married. They started their theatre group, Dishantar, that became one of Delhi’s steller theatre groups of its period.

9. They produced many notable plays such as Mohan Rakesh’s Aadhe Adhure, Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe and Girish Karnad’s Tughlaq, performed at ridges of Talkatora Gardens.

10. After the untimely death of Mohan Rakesh, Om decided to go to Bombay to act in Films with only 1500 rupees in his pocket and gave himself the time of 1 year to make a reputation as an actor.
11. In 1971, Om Shivpuri got his first Bollywood break with Mani Kaul’s Aashadh Ka Ek Din, soon followed by Gulzar’s Koshish (1972), Namak Haraam (1973), and Jeevan Sangram (1974).

12. He expired in 1990 due to a Heart Attack in Mumbai. He was 52.

13. In 2000, Sudha Shivpuri became famous for her role as BAA in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Om Shivpuri and Sudha Shivpuri had two children, actress Ritu, and assistant director Vineet Shivpuri. The actor, Om Shivpuri, would continue to be remembered by the Indian Cinema and Theatre for his contributions to Bollywood and Theatre.
