Places to visit around Coorg: The coffee destination!

Imagine waking up what you need first? Phone mat bolna yaar! Well, for me, my first thought is I need coffee!! But where does that coffee originate? In India, mostly Coorg! So let’s explore places to visit around Coorg. 

1) Abbey Falls 

  • It is also known as Abbi Falls. It is situated around 10 km away from the town of Mredikeri.   
  • The water falls from the cliff from a height of 70 feet. The main entrance has 200 steps downward all the way and takes you through exotic coffee, cardamom, pepper, and other spice plantations. 
  • Bathing in the waterfall is now prohibited.
  • The first British chaplain of Coorg named this place Jessy Falls after his daughter. 
  • The best time to visit is July to October.
  • Entry Fee- INR 15

          Parking Fee- INR 10 to 15

2) Raja’s Seat

  • Raja’s seat is a garden built on an elevated ground overseeing the valleys stretching to the west, making it a popular viewpoint to watch sunrise and sunset. There is also a toy train available. 
  • Raja’s seat lies in Madikeri in the districts of Coorg. It is best to go during sunrise or sunset. 
  • Entry fee- Garden- INR 5

     Toy Train- INR 10

  • Timings- 5.30 A.M. to 7.30 P.M.

3) Coffee Plantation

  • Coffee Plantations have a variety of spice plants and vanilla trees. 
  • Most of these coffee estates provide a paid guided walking tour and have stores where you can buy the produce.
  • The tour price starts from INR 400

4) Madikeri Fort 

  • This ancient fort was constructed in the latter half of the seventeenth century by Muddu Raja. 
  • The possession of this fort passed through various hands. 
  • It is situated in the centre of Madikeri town, and gives insights into the history of Coorg. 

5) Dubare Elephant Camp 

  • Located on the banks of River Cauvery in Coorg is a place where elephants train under a naturalist for Mysore Dushera.
  • Elephant rides are very popular.
  • Entry Fee- Rs. 20 per person( activities not included) 
  • Timings- 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
