Qigong: Why To Practice Ikigai’s Much-Hyped Chinese Exercise?

Avatar

Qigong is amongst many things (including the book & authors itself) that Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia has popularised into the world sedentary (or extra-comfortable) lives. Why? Well, the authors have been precise. But, if you are not a reader, the following blog summarises the much-hyped Qigong from Ikigai

1. Qigong is also known as Chi Kung. There are many forms of Qigong.

2. Qigong: Qi=life force, or energy; Gong=work.

3. Qigong is about the life strength of an individual (not merely physical, muscle-oriented practice).

4. The art of Qigong is based on the Tao Yin, an antique art proposed to promote the overall (mental, spiritual and physical) wellness of a human being.

5. Inactive but energetic physical movements is what Qigong focuses on.

6. Rapid movements done in a dynamic state triggers inhaling and loosening of the body muscles (no matter if you are seated, resting or in any other inactive position).

  1. Advantages of Qigong:
  • Modification of brain waves
  • Recovered balance of sex hormones
  • Greater bone density
  • Body connections
  • Develop Cardiac functions
  • Stability and efficiency of bodily functions

8. Observations say that practising Qigong can lead to adding some extra years to our lives as it focuses on ‘life spirit flowing through many parts of the body.’

  1. Techniques for exercising Qigong (as per Ikigai):
  • Tyau Shem (correct posture)
  • Tyam Shyi (breathing)
  • Tyam Hsin (mind-control)
  • Tyau Chi (life force through 3 prime-elements)
  • Tyau Shen (improving the spirit)

10. 5 elements (on which Qigong exercises are based): Earth, Water, Wood, Metal and Fire.

11. Ikigai has followed the model of professor Maria Isabel Gracia Monreal from the Qigong Institute in Barcelona.
