The lyrics of the song “CHAUDVIN KA CHAND” were penned down by Shakeel Badayuni. Without any doubt, it is one of the most famous songs the Bollywood Industry ever produced.
1. Shakeel Badayuni was born on 03 August 1916, was naturally inclined towards writing Ghazals and Shers. He had an essence of love and romance in his poetry. Many Shers and Ghazals of Shakeel Sahab have given hope and something to savour to the AASHIQSS of different generations.

2. Shakeel was born in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The place later inspired his last name, and he became Shakeel Badayuni. His inclination towards poetry was not hereditary like other Shayars. Influenced by his distant relatives, Zia-ul-Qadiri Badayuni, a religious shayar and the contemporary environment of Badaun, led Shakeel towards poetry.

He was proud that his poetry wasn’t any different from his life. It takes a gifted being to express such a complex thought with such ease which Shakeel Badayuni Sahab was.

4. Shakeel went to Aligarh Muslim University, where he used to participate in Inter-University mushairas and won frequently. During those days, Shakeel started learning poetry from Hakeem Abdul Waheed ‘Ashk’ Bijnori formally.

5. Shakeel married Salma, his distant relative, in 1940. He moved to Delhi as a supply officer after completing his studies but continued participating in mushairas, due to which he got nationwide fame.

6. After spending two years in Delhi, he moved to Bombay in 1944 to become a lyricist. At a meeting with film producer A.R Kardar and music composer Naushad Ali, who asked him to precise his poetic skills in one line. In response to which Shakeel wrote “Hum Dard Ka Afsana Duniya Ko Suna Denge, Har Dil Main Mohabbat Ki Ek Aag Laga Dengey”.

7. His first collaboration with Naushad was for the movie Dard which turned out to be very successful, especially for the song “Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon”.

8. Shakeel Badayuni and Naushad became one of the most prominent composer/ lyricists duos in the industry. Together they produced scores for many movies which included, Deedar, Bajju Bawra, Mother India, Mughal-E-Azam and many more.

10. Shakeel shared a very close friendship with Naushad. When Shakeel Badayuni was Diagnosed with TB, Naushad took 3 films to him for those Shakeel wrote lyrics in the sanatorium. All this because Shakeel was not very sound financially, and Naushad helped him in his own way.

12. Shakeel Badayuni died, on 20 April 1970, at the age of Fifty-Three, due to diabetes complications at Bombay Hospital.
