What video game should I play now? As the pandemic doesn't look like it'll go away any time soon, we have all gotten pretty bored in our houses. Worry not, let's play a video game. Play a video game, you say? But which game? There are thousands on the market. Don't worry we've got you covered. Here are some of the best games of the 21st century.
1. Limbo
Limbo is a game that no one knows what you're doing in it. You play as a little boy on the run from death or who is probably already dead. The game's monochrome black and white theme and the ominous background music make this game a must-play for everyone. Plus, we'd like to hear how you interpreted the main story. What do you think happened to the boy?
2. Assassin's Creed II
“An open-world adventure in a historically and culturally rich place” is what the original Assassin's Creed game promised. But it was its sequel that actually delivered it. Based in Renaissance Italy, the story revolves around Ezio Auditore, one of the best characters in the franchise and also has several historical figures like Leonardo DaVinci, Niccolo Macchiavelli, Cesare Borgia and many more.
3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
COD4 was one of the first shooters that introduced a cinematic verve to the gameplay. The brilliant campaign aside, the game also became popular due to its fun multiplayer. It was the game the changed the deathmatch experience for everyone.
4. God of War (2018)
The winner of the “Game of the Year” award for 2018, this game is a visual masterpiece. Following the story of the now-reformed war God, the new God of War has an amazing story, superb characters and interactive storytelling, God of War will completely immerse you in it.
5. The Last of Us
The Zombie genre is populated with mediocre games. However, The Last of Us is probably the best game in the genre. The story of the grieving Joel and the innocent teenager Ellie, as they make their way through a critter-infested America, is heart-wrenching. This game brings to mind an old saying from The Walking Dead, “Don't fear the dead, fear the living.”
6. Grand Theft Auto IV
Gamers to this day debate which GTA had the better story, GTA IV or GTA V. The story revolves around Niko Bellic, an Eastern-European coming to the United States, searching for a life away from crime and violence. Unfortunately, his American Dream soon turns sour, and he is forced to deal in the only currency he knows – violence. This game is so detailed and full of life that it is sometimes hard to believe that it is just a few lines of code.
7. Red Dead Redemption 2
If someone asks me what my favourite game company is, I'll say Rockstar Games without any hesitation. From GTA and Bully to Max Payne, the studio has given us excellent games one after the other. Another such game is the RDR2. A detailed recreation of the 20th-century USA, the RDR2 is vast, picturesque and has one of the best stories in a video game. It is totally worth your time.
8. Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo: Combat Evolved was one of the first alien shooter games where the aliens actually fought back. This game spawned one of the best shooting series in the entire world. It has an excellent story, and the whole Halo universe is full of interesting lore.
9. Grand Theft Auto V
Launched in 2013, this game can be described in a single word – Masterpiece. It is one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time. It has not one, but three protagonists – a retired gangster whose family hates him, a young man from the “hood” trying to escape a life of crime, and a violent psychopath. A satire of the modern USA, film storytelling and a lovely story makes it one of the best games to be created.
That concludes the list. Hopefully, now you won't be as bored as you were before. These games will also distract you from all the mayhem that's going on in the world right now.
