One of the best artists that Bollywood has earned is Yashpal Sharma. He was born in January 1965 in Hisar, Haryana.

As a child, he washed dishes for money, worked in the grocery stores, grounded the flour, and was interested in acting. His brother helped him towards his dream. He also used to participate in Ramlila during Dasara Carnivals.

At the age of 22, he left his house and moved to Delhi. Here he saw a stage show that inspired him. Upon this, he stayed in Delhi for the next four months, after which he returned home.

He convinced his family towards his passion for acting after their initial disapproval. He moved back to Delhi to pursue his career as an actor. He joined the National School of Drama, New Delhi.

After that, he did many stage shows and reality shows. But, he didn’t receive any Films. Later, he shifted to Mumbai with the hope to get a break.

After a stretched struggle, he was able to get his debut with Govind Nihalani’s film, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. “Aur lo safar shuru ho gaya…”

He is best known for his roles in Gangs of Wasseypur, Bharat, Lagaan, Gangaajal, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apaharan, Singh Is Kinng, and Rowdy Rathore, and Tubelight.

His film, Pagdi (Haryanvi Movie), was honoured by the National Film Awards.

He also began performing in commercial films, like Shool and Arjun Pandit. However, it was the Academy Award-nominated Lagaan that earned him the publicity.

In 2010, he worked in One on One and Lakeerein (a serial written by Gulzar) and Mera Naam Karegi Roshan. He also appeared in a cameo role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2011 and in the lead role in Neeli Chhatri Waale in 2014.

Yashpal won Whatashort Independent International Film Festival Award for a short film, Moksha, 2016. Yashpal Sharma played a lead in Das Capital, 2020, directed by Rajen Kothari.
The artist is working hard in writing and directing a biopic on the Haryanvi Poet, Pandit Lakshmi Chand.
