Kali Sharma

The history of darts travels back to that King who is remembered for his fight with the Church for marital annulment: King Henry VIII of England.

So, stay hooked with us as we tell you all about that game that everyone has played with our cousins at least once:

1. Darts as a game first originated in England during the reign of King Henry VIII.

2. It was basically invented for the military people to hit their target under a sufficient time-frame and in the most accurate manner to hit their targets best.

3. Interestingly, Darts has always been played all over the UK for the past 100 years. Ever thought about how Darts are made?

4. Darts are made with wood wrapped with a step of lead to weight and attached with feathers. The dart is hard to make the pinpoint hit the target.

5. A Lancashire carpenter Brian Gamlin made the number system on a dartboard to reduce the chances of hitting the “lucky shot”.

6. In 1844, “Puff And Darts” originated. In this, people use blowpipes to blow the dart on the board.

7. In 1920, the very first dart championship was held.

8. After four years, a National Dart Association (NDA) was formed.

9. From 1954 to 1970s, the National Darts Association Of Great Britain was established, sponsored by The People (the UK, Sunday newspaper).

10. In 1974, the World’s Dart Federation (WDF) was created by 14 people, fixing the rules and encouraging the players to further test their skills.

11. WDF also holds the worldwide championship to single the best out of the best.

12. Deta Hedman is one of the first dart player winners in the world with an impressive record of winning for six consecutive years. Wait!…wha’?

13. In 1992, the UK established Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

14. Darts was also legalised and established in India in 2000, under the name of All India Darts Association.

15. The game of Darts has become more competitive in recent years. Throughout history, Darts have remained a great game to be played in Pub-Games or while having a relaxing get-together.

So now when you go to your Mama’s house, do not miss a chance to tell your always winning cousin about how she can become the next big icon in the world of Sports!
