7 Indian Female Weightlifters Who Are Lifting Barbells, Rocking Mindsets

In this column, we have jotted the names of 7 Indian Female Weightlifters, who chose not to wear bangles, but lift dumbbells, shifting the perspectives of many!

 

Modern females of India are literally fe+male, i.e., next to Iron Man, especially the home-makers! Thanks to their hard work both mentally and physically, balancing between their dreams and household chores.

 

But in recent times, a few women are literally pushing boundaries, proving that they are no less than any male, even physically! They battle on the international stages of sports, which were earlier considered games for men.

 

Following are 7 Indian Female Weightlifters Who Are Lifting Barbells, Rocking Mindsets

1. Kavita Devi: First Indian Women to feature in WWE, but before it, she was India’s top female weightlifters as well. She won Gold in the 75kg category at South Asian Games.

2.Sakina Khatun: Last of the Indian Women Weightlifters to win a medal at Glasgow in 2014. She acquired a Bronze in the Women’s-61kg Weightlifting category in Bangalore.

 3.Punam Yadav: The 22-years-old lady from Uttar Pradesh, won a Bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, Scotland.

4.Swati Singh: Benefited from Chika Amalaha’s disqualification, Swati originally came fourth, but with Amalaha, she was removed from the rankings. She was titled for a Bronze.

5. Santoshi Matsa: Again due to Amalaha’s exit, and failing in a drug test, Santoshi jumped to the second position, and obtained a Silver at 2014 commonwealth games.

 6.Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu: Captured the first position in Gaslow in 2014 under the 48kg category. Her lift of 173kg was only 2kg short of a Commonwealth Games Record

7.Saikhom Mirabai Chanu: She is the only female Indian weightlifter to be a part of the 2016 Indian Olympic team. Earlier, she was also able to conquer a Silver at the 48kg category in 2014, Commonwealth Games, Brazil.

The Indian Female Weightlifters have a vast gap to cover still. We all hope, in future, inspired by ladies above, many more girls and women, will take part in various international sports competitions, making India proud!
